Kakdwip, 27 June 2026: A simple act of planting a tree became a heartfelt expression of love, gratitude, and responsibility towards nature during the “A Tree in Mother’s Name” (একটি গাছ মায়ের নামে) programme organised at Akshayanagar Shibpur Primary School in South 24 Parganas. Jointly organised by Mukti and the school, the initiative was inspired by the Government of India’s nationwide campaign and encouraged students, parents, teachers, and local residents to plant a sapling in honour of their mothers—a gesture that celebrates both the nurturing spirit of motherhood and the importance of protecting the environment.
The programme aimed to inspire people to see tree plantation not just as an environmental activity, but as a meaningful commitment to future generations. As saplings were distributed among teachers, students, parents, and members of the local community, each plant carried a message of care, hope, and responsibility. Participants were encouraged to nurture their saplings just as their mothers have nurtured them, creating a lasting bond between family values and environmental stewardship.
The event was graced by Shri Dipankar Jana, Honourable MLA of Kakdwip Assembly and Minister of State for Sundarban Affairs, Land and Land Reforms, and Refugee Relief and Rehabilitation, Government of West Bengal, as the Chief Guest. The programme was also attended by M. D. Mehebub Asifuzzaman, District Inspector of Schools (Primary Education), South 24 Parganas; Shri Goutam Haldar, District Inspector of Schools (Secondary Education), Birbhum District; Shri Debabrata Halder, CEO of Mukti Fresh, who presided over the programme; Shrimati Ananya Chatterjee, Senior Program Manager – Education, Mukti; Shri Mrinal Das, Acting Sub-Inspector of Schools, Kakdwip South Circle; Shri Rabishankar Das, Retired Assistant Inspector of Primary Schools; Dr. Amit Kumar Dey, Program Manager – Environment, Mukti; and Shri Chandan Bilas Jit, Head Teacher of Akshayanagar Shibpur Primary School. Teacher representatives from 84 primary schools under the Kakdwip South Circle also participated, reflecting a collective commitment to environmental education.
In their addresses, the guests spoke about the growing challenges posed by climate change and the urgent need to restore and protect the environment. They highlighted how every tree planted today contributes to cleaner air, richer biodiversity, healthier ecosystems, and a more sustainable future. More importantly, they encouraged children to become ambassadors for the environment by carrying these values back to their homes and inspiring their families and neighbours to plant and care for trees.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Debabrata Halder, CEO of Mukti Fresh, highlighted Mukti’s philosophy of working through collaboration. He said, “At Mukti, we don’t compete with the Government or any non-governmental institutions. Rather, we believe ourselves to be a supportive partner to all, providing whatever little help we can to jointly achieve our ultimate goal of a greener tomorrow with economic inclusion and sustainable community development.”
His message reflected Mukti’s long-standing belief that meaningful environmental conservation can only be achieved through collective action. By working hand in hand with government departments, local communities, educational institutions, and corporate partners, Mukti continues to support and strengthen initiatives that contribute to environmental sustainability, economic inclusion, and resilient community development.
Presided over by Dr. Amit Kumar Dey, the programme brought together students, teachers, parents, and members of the local community in a shared celebration of nature. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm as children proudly received their saplings, families pledged to care for them, and educators reaffirmed the role of schools in nurturing environmentally conscious citizens.
More than just a plantation drive, “A Tree in Mother’s Name” served as a reminder that caring for the environment begins with small but meaningful actions. By connecting the love for one’s mother with the responsibility of caring for the Earth, the initiative left participants with a powerful message, that every tree planted today is a gift to both our families and the generations to come.
