01. Why the project is?
  • The Sundarbans is highly vulnerable to cyclones, salinity, and loss of traditional livelihoods like farming and fishing.
  • Women face economic insecurity, limited income opportunities, and increasing household responsibilities due to migration of male family members.
  • The project aims to create climate-resilient, community-based livelihood opportunities for women through tapestry weaving and recycled textile crafts.
  • It also promotes sustainable use of discarded clothes and textile waste.
02. What the project is?
  • Project NAVYA is a four-month women livelihood and skill development initiative.
  • The project will train 90 SHG women in tapestry weaving, recycled textile craft production, and basic enterprise management.
  • It will establish one central hub and two satellite production centres.
  • Products such as wall hangings, mats, cushion covers, and decorative textiles will be marketed under the “NAVYA” brand.
03. How the project is?
  • Women will receive practical training in weaving, loom operation, recycled textile processing, product finishing, and quality control.
  • The hub centre will manage raw material processing, branding, packaging, and market linkage support.
  • The satellite centres will function as local weaving and production units.
  • Women will work through SHG-based production groups to ensure collective ownership and sustainability.
  • Products will be connected to markets through fairs, exhibitions, boutiques, and digital platforms.
04. Where the project is?
  • The project will be implemented in the Raidighi block of the Sundarbans region in West Bengal.
  • The central hub will be located at Raidighi.
  • The satellite centres will be established in Radhakantapur and Purba Shridharpur.
