This year’s Durga Puja was not just a celebration of culture and devotion but also of entrepreneurship and community spirit. Beneficiaries of Mukti’s SWAS 2.0 Project (Swavalamban Accelerator in Sundarban) took centre stage, proudly setting up 10 stalls across Kolkata and South 24 Parganas.
From New Town and Bansdroni to Tollygunge, and even Namkhana, the stalls offered a vibrant array of products including handmade soft toys, processed foods, jewellery, and other artisanal items. Each stall reflected the creativity, resilience, and determination of the beneficiaries, many of whom are women and young entrepreneurs from the Sundarban region.
The initiative provided more than just a marketplace—it offered these budding entrepreneurs an opportunity to engage directly with customers, share their stories, and gain visibility for their work. Shoppers not only enjoyed the unique offerings but also appreciated the spirit of self-reliance and skill-building that Mukti fosters through its programs.
By bridging tradition with enterprise, the SWAS 2.0 Project highlighted how festive occasions can also become platforms for empowerment, income generation, and sustainable livelihoods. The success of these stalls reinforces Mukti’s commitment to nurturing entrepreneurship and supporting communities in the Sundarban region.
