In a powerful display of solidarity, more than 200 women from Radhakantapur gathered for a rally against child marriage, as part of the Ananda Mela programme. The programme took place on 1st December 2024, in the playground of Ateshwartala School and was organized by Mukti’s Shahoshini team, in collaboration with Kolkata Foundation, and supported by Swayam.
The primary goal of the event was to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of child marriage, with a strong message calling for social change and the protection of young girls’ rights. The women marched through the village carrying placards and chanting slogans that highlighted the urgency of ending child marriages and ensuring education and empowerment for young girls.
In addition to the rally, the Ananda Mela event featured several engaging activities aimed at fostering community participation and spreading crucial knowledge. Rural games, a tradition in many parts of West Bengal, were held, bringing people together in a fun, inclusive environment. These activities were designed to not only entertain but also encourage discussions about social issues.
An awareness session on health was also organized as part of the event, led by Mukti’s Swasthya Shongini team. The session provided valuable insights into health and well-being.
The event was a testament to the power of community mobilization and collaboration with participants vowing to continue their fight against child marriage and other social issues affecting women and children in the region. Mukti and its partners remain committed to spreading awareness and creating lasting change in the community.
As the event concluded, the spirit of unity and hope was evident in the faces of all involved, as they took one step closer to a future free from child marriage.
