Value Education at MKSS: Nurturing Values, Shaping Young Minds

As part of Mukti’s Value Education & Life Skills Initiative, an online session on “Sharing Gratitude” was conducted with TOT (Training of Trainers) teachers representing all MKSS clusters. The session encouraged teachers to explore gratitude beyond the simple words “thank you” and recognise the everyday acts of kindness, care, and support that can often go unnoticed.

The learning did not end with the online session. Inspired by the discussion, the teachers carried the idea of gratitude into their classrooms, creating opportunities for children to understand and express it through their own everyday experiences.

Through simple conversations and engaging activities, children reflected on the people and moments they feel thankful for—a friend who shares food, a teacher who patiently helps them learn, a parent who cares for them, or someone who offers a helping hand when they need it.

Turning Gratitude into Practice

The classroom became a space where gratitude was not only discussed, but also expressed, practised, and felt.

Through role plays, sharing circles, and interactive conversations, children enacted familiar situations and practised expressing appreciation for the small acts of kindness they experience every day. They were encouraged to think about whom they could thank that day, why they felt grateful, and how a simple expression of gratitude can make both the giver and the receiver feel valued.

What began as an online learning experience for teachers gradually found its way into the everyday lives of children. By encouraging them to notice the little things, appreciate the people around them, and openly express their feelings of gratitude, the initiative transformed a simple value into a meaningful everyday practice.

Beyond teaching children to say “thank you,” the activity helps nurture empathy, kindness, appreciation, and positive relationships—important life skills that can shape how children connect with their families, friends, teachers, and communities.

One small “thank you” at a time, gratitude is becoming a habit of the heart.
