Cyclone Dana made landfall on the Odisha coast between Bhitarkanika in Kendrapara district and Dhamra in Bhadrak district, unleashing powerful winds of around 110 kmph and causing extensive damage. Vansaba, Bhadrak, and Dhamra experienced severe destruction, with uprooted trees, damaged buildings, and blocked roads. Roads were closed due to storm damage, disrupting all modes of transport. In rural areas, farmland, especially paddy fields, was flooded, leading to heavy crop losses that threaten the livelihood of thousands of farmers. Power infrastructure in remote parts of Bhadrak and Kendrapara districts was also severely affected, with widespread power outages due to fallen trees. Transportation has been halted in many areas due to blocked roads.
In Rajnagar Block, 14 Gram Panchayats (GPs), and in Rajkanika Block, 8 GPs, have been hit, impacting 32,000 families. Nearly 20% of these families live in thatched or asbestos homes, leaving them particularly vulnerable. Over 23,000 elderly individuals are now facing critical challenges related to housing, nutrition, sanitation, and health, alongside nearly 850 physically challenged people. Continuous rains threaten livestock, with over 35,000 goats and sheep at risk of disease. Women and girls in affected areas face urgent needs for hygiene and sanitation supplies under these conditions.
In response, Mukti has mobilized relief efforts in Rajnagar and Rajkanika Blocks, establishing emergency shelters, distributing food, and providing clean water and medical aid to those affected. We urgently need your support to sustain these critical relief efforts. By contributing, you will help provide emergency shelter for displaced families, food and water for affected communities, medical assistance to treat injuries and prevent outbreaks of waterborne diseases, and essential supplies like clothing, hygiene kits, and basic necessities. Your compassion and generosity can bring relief and hope to those affected by Cyclone Dana.
