A Technical Training on Scientific Backyard Poultry Management was successfully conducted by Ramsai Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Jalpaiguri, and organised by MUKTI under the NIRMAN Project at Uttar Jharmatiali, Lataguri.
The training witnessed the participation of approximately 65 attendees, including 62 community members, MUKTI Self-Help Group (SHG) leaders and members, and representatives of the project’s Core Committee.
The technical session was facilitated by Dr. Manas Kumar Das and Mr. Naren Roy. The resource persons provided practical and scientific guidance on backyard poultry management, covering essential aspects such as brooding techniques, balanced feeding practices, vaccination schedules, disease prevention, and basic healthcare management for poultry.
The training was organised in preparation for the upcoming chick distribution programme under the NIRMAN Project (Supported by Canara Bank) , with the objective of equipping beneficiaries with the knowledge and skills required for successful poultry rearing. Participants actively engaged in the interactive sessions and gained a clear understanding of scientific poultry management practices.
The resource persons also highlighted how scientific backyard poultry farming can contribute to improved household income enhanced livelihood opportunities and better nutritional security through regular access to eggs and poultry products. They further expressed their willingness to extend technical guidance and collaborate with MUKTI whenever required to ensure the successful implementation of the poultry livelihood initiative.
Overall, the training strengthened the participants’ technical knowledge and preparedness, laying a strong foundation for the effective implementation and long-term sustainability of the backyard poultry component under the NIRMAN Project.
