Mukti, in collaboration with the “Small Industries Development Bank of India” (SIDBI), has launched version 2.0 of the Swavalamban Accelerator in Sundarban (SWAS) project. This initiative aims to empower 2000 women through skill development in handicraft making. Two centers equipped with Teaching-Learning Materials (TLM) and necessary equipment have been established in Raidighi under Mathurapur Block II and Ramganga under Patharpratima Block of South 24 Parganas district.
Following a comprehensive baseline assessment, 15 Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) sessions and pre-training meetings were conducted. Training programs focusing on soft toys, shola crafts, and imitation jewelry have been designed to empower the participants. To date, Mukti has successfully completed training sessions for four batches. Two trainings on soft toys and shola sets are currently underway. Each batch consists of 25 to 28 trainees.
The trainees of SWAS 2.0 benefit immensely from the training programs, gaining valuable skills in handicraft making such as soft toys, shola craft, and imitation jewelry. These skills not only enhance their craftsmanship but also open up opportunities for sustainable income generation. Through hands-on training and the use of Teaching-Learning Materials (TLM), the women become proficient in creating quality products. Additionally, the supportive environment and community engagement fostered by the program boost their confidence and entrepreneurial spirit, empowering them to contribute significantly to their households and the local economy.
