On the 9th of January 2024, Mukti’s Rights team took a significant step towards legal awareness by organizing a camp at the “Sundarban Agriculture, Education, Handicrafts and Environment Fair 2024”. The event was graced by the presence of additional district and session judge, Mr. Jayprakash Singh, along with 17 lawyers who contributed their expertise to the cause. The group comprised of advocates Pranab Kumar Gayen, Atanu Mondal, Purna Chandra Naiya, Ramjan Ali Molla, Sumsul Alam Sardar, Suman Sardar, Kunal Baidya, Rajab Ali Molla, Ruksad Khatun, Sajahan Molla, and six other legal professionals from Diamond Harbour court specializing in criminal law.
The informative session, spanning almost an hour, delved into critical issues surrounding women’s and children’s rights. Judge Jayprakash Singh shed light on topics like violence against women, POSCO-related concerns, child marriage, and the persisting dowry system. He emphasized the existence of a vital resource known as the “District Legal Service Aid” center, where women could file complaints against violence and receive free legal assistance.
During the session, the audience gained valuable insights into various laws crafted to protect women. Judge Singh elucidated the avenues available for women to file complaints and seek assistance. The camp not only disseminated crucial legal information but also empowered women with the knowledge of their rights, fostering a sense of security and awareness within the community.
