In collaboration with MuktiI, an associate organization, TCS facilitated an eco-friendly exclusive rural exhibition on handicrafts and organic products named “Enterprise CBO Soulful Creation mela” at Block C, cafeteria, Gitanjali Park, New Town, Kolkata on 25 and 26th September 2024 from 12 pm to 4 pm. The spotlight was on self-help groups (SHGs) from Sundarban, who presented a stunning array of sustainable products. These ranged from certified organic vegetables and seeds to pottery, jewelry, soft toys, decorative accessories, and handmade, chemical-free makeup. At the event, Mukri contributed significantly by providing six stalls, including a dedicated information center.
Information Center Stall:
The Mukti Information Center was designed to highlight the organization’s extensive work, with a special focus on its HEALER AID model and its positive impact on the lives of the underprivileged. Visitors were able to gain insight into a wide range of Mukti’s initiatives, including the Mukti Model Village, Mukti Green Tourism, organic agriculture projects, Swavalamban initiatives and community-based business ventures.
Eco-Friendly Handmade Products stall:
MUKTI is committed to promoting eco-conscious living through a variety of sustainable, handmade products that reflect traditional craftsmanship and environmentally responsible practices. Created by skilled artisans from rural communities and supported by MUKTI’s self-help groups (SHGs), these items include chemical-free maquillage (makeup) made from natural ingredients, offering a safe and eco-friendly alternative to conventional beauty products. Additionally, Mukti transforms the invasive water hyacinth into functional crafts like baskets and bags, mitigating its environmental impact while creating income for rural communities. Pottery products, crafted using traditional techniques and locally sourced clay, range from kitchenware to home décor, embodying sustainable living. Mukti also offers handmade jewelry, crafted from sustainable and recycled materials, reflecting cultural heritage while empowering artisans by providing access to new markets.
Organic Farming Stall:
Mukti’s organic farming initiatives promote sustainable agriculture in the Sundarbans, enhancing food security and improving rural livelihoods. By advocating chemical-free farming methods, Mukti empowers local farmers with the knowledge and resources to adopt organic cultivation, focusing on soil health, biodiversity, and ecological balance. Farmers receive training in sustainable techniques like composting, biofertilizers, and crop diversity, reducing reliance on synthetic inputs while improving soil fertility and ecosystem resilience. Mukti also nurtures market linkages for organic produce, creating cooperatives that enhance farmers’ income and raise consumer awareness of the benefits of sustainable farming. Mukti addresses agricultural challenges through these initiatives while contributing to environmental sustainability, health, and economic empowerment.
Community Business Stall:
Mukti’s Community Business initiatives enhance rural livelihoods by promoting the production and distribution of organic vegetables, chemical-free groceries, and homemade food products. Through sustainable farming practices, Mukti collaborates with local farmers to offer safe, high-quality organic produce that supports soil health and biodiversity, while connecting them directly with consumers through farmer markets and CSA programs. In addition to organic produce, Mukti provides chemical-free groceries and homemade food items crafted by local artisans, empowering women and preserving traditional recipes. These initiatives foster economic empowerment, community cohesion, and environmental sustainability, creating a holistic ecosystem that benefits both producers and consumers.
Swabalamban Initiatives Stall:
Mukti’s Swabalamban Initiatives promote self-reliance and empowerment among self-help groups (SHGs) in the Sundarbans by supporting artisans in showcasing and marketing their handmade products. Through exhibitions, trade fairs, and training workshops on product quality, branding, and pricing, Mukti helps SHGs enhance their business skills and reach broader markets. These initiatives create sustainable marketing linkages, connecting SHGs with retailers, wholesalers, and e-commerce platforms, boosting their income and economic stability. Beyond financial gains, Swabalamban raises community collaboration and strengthens resilience, empowering rural artisans to achieve self-sufficiency and sustainable livelihoods.
Overall, the exhibition underscored Mukti’s commitment to empowering rural communities, promoting sustainable practices, and enhancing economic opportunities for rural artisans and farmers. Looking ahead, Mukti remains dedicated to expanding opportunities for rural producers to connect with urban markets, furthering its mission to uplift communities in the Sundarbans and promote a sustainable future.
