Breaking Barriers: Mukti’s All-Female Football Team Empowers Young Girls

In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at empowering women and promoting gender equality, Mukti has successfully formed an all-female football team in Purba Sridharpur, a rural part of West Bengal. The initiative, launched through Mukti’s VOICE project, seeks to challenge traditional gender roles and foster a sense of strength and self-confidence among young girls in the region.All-Female Football Team

Historically, rural Indian communities have often relegated women to the role of the weaker and vulnerable section of society, with limited opportunities for empowerment. Mukti’s initiative, however, is working to change this perception by encouraging young girls to take up sports, particularly football, a field traditionally dominated by men.All-Female Football Team

A total of 36 girls from Purba Sridharpur showed interest in participating in the initiative, marking a significant step toward breaking down societal barriers. These girls have been actively training under the guidance of a female coach, appointed specifically for this purpose. The presence of a female coach is a key element of the initiative, as it not only helps build trust and confidence but also serves as a powerful symbol of women’s leadership and empowerment.

On 15^th November 2024, a practice match was arranged between two teams, formed of these 36 girls. The excitement and enthusiasm displayed by the girls during the match was a clear indicator of the growing interest in sports and the potential for further breaking gender stereotypes. The game provided the young players with an opportunity to showcase their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship while also promoting unity and camaraderie among them.All-Female Football Team

Building on the success of the initial match, Mukti organized another practice session on 17^th November 2024, but this time with even greater participation. Four teams were formed out of 36 players, with each team consisting of 9 players. It provided an opportunity for the girls to further sharpen their skills, refine their strategies, and enhance their understanding of team dynamics. The growing involvement of the community also highlighted the importance of grassroots sports initiatives in promoting gender equality.All-Female Football Team

All-Female Football Team the initiative has received overwhelming support from the local community, with many families expressing pride in seeing their daughters actively involved in sports. Mukti aims to continue supporting these young girls, offering them the resources and training necessary to excel both on and off the field. The VOICE project is not just about playing football; it is about changing mindsets. By using football as a medium, the initiative is helping to foster a new generation of empowered young women who are ready to challenge norms and lead the charge for gender equality in their communities.
