On 10th January 2021, Mukti organised a virtual meeting with the former Miss World, 2017 Manushi Chillar to launch compostable organic sanitary napkins for the women of Sunderban. From Mukti’s end the Founder – President Mr. Sankar Halder was present at the meeting.
Rapid urbanization has made us to consume a lot of disposal items which can’t be recycled or reused. One such item is the sanitary napkins. These one-time use pads are made of plastic and hence are non-biodegradable. This menstrual waste lands in our landfills or worse in our water bodies, thus polluting our ecology.
Manushi Chillar is working on women menstrual health and hygiene for many years and is associated with Aakar. Aakar, the NGO is the manufacturers of “Anadi” pads. Mukti in association with Aakar launched “Anadi” compostable organic sanitary napkins in Sunderban.
“Anadi” pads are made organically with non-toxic and eco-friendly materials like wood pulp, bamboo or banana fiber, organic cotton etc to avoid allergies or infections. These organic and biodegradable sanitary pads can decompose within 6 months and hence do not harm the environment.
Manushi heard about the challenges that a menstrual woman of Sunderbans has to undergo during her period. She realized that a massive awareness is required to uplift the menstrual life of the women. She was overwhelmed by the activities that Mukti is doing for the community. She assured her all help and wished Mukti good luck.
