Taki, 23 July 2026: Marking the beginning of a new collaboration with Taki House Government Sponsored Girls’ High School, the Mukti Urban Project, through its MUKTI SURYA Team, organized a Digital Safety and Cyber Security Awareness Workshop for the students of Classes VIII and IX. The programme aimed to raise awareness about cyber security, promote the safe and responsible use of digital technologies, and encourage healthy digital habits among adolescents. A total of 148 students participated in the session, making it an engaging and impactful learning experience.
The workshop was designed to equip students with practical knowledge and awareness to navigate today’s increasingly digital world safely and confidently. The session covered a wide range of topics, including cyber threats, online privacy, cyberbullying, phishing attacks, password security, social media safety, digital footprints, and responsible online behaviour. Through practical examples and real-life scenarios, students learned about the different forms of online risks they may encounter in their daily lives and the simple yet effective measures they can take to protect themselves while using digital platforms.
A significant part of the programme focused on the impact of social media on mental health, an issue of growing importance among young people. The facilitators discussed how excessive use of social media, cyberbullying, online comparison, misinformation, and digital addiction can negatively affect emotional well-being, self-confidence, concentration, sleep patterns, academic performance, and overall mental health. Students were encouraged to reflect on their own digital habits and understand the importance of using technology in a balanced and mindful way.
The session also provided practical guidance on maintaining a healthy balance between online and offline activities, limiting unnecessary screen time, using privacy settings to safeguard personal information, avoiding harmful online interactions, verifying information before believing or sharing it, and seeking support from parents, teachers, counsellors, or other trusted adults whenever they face online risks or emotional distress. The facilitators emphasized that while technology offers immense opportunities for learning and communication, it should always be used responsibly and safely.
The workshop followed a highly interactive approach, encouraging students to actively participate in discussions, ask questions, and share their own experiences related to digital platforms and social media. Practical demonstrations and relatable case studies helped simplify complex cyber security concepts and enabled students to better understand how to identify and respond to potential online threats. The programme concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, reinforcing the key messages shared throughout the workshop and encouraging students to become informed, responsible, and compassionate digital citizens.
Beyond imparting knowledge on cyber security, the programme sought to build confidence among students so that they feel empowered to make informed decisions online, protect themselves from cyber risks, and support their peers in creating a safer digital environment.
This awareness programme also marked the beginning of Mukti Urban Project’s collaboration with Taki House Government Sponsored Girls’ High School. As the first awareness session conducted at the school, it laid the foundation for a long-term partnership focused on adolescent development and well-being. More awareness programmes on digital safety and other relevant social issues will be organized at the school in the coming months, enabling students to continue developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to thrive in an increasingly digital society.
Mukti extends its heartfelt appreciation to the MUKTI SURYA Team, especially Ms. Saswati Mukherjee and Mr. Sumit Halder, for facilitating such an informative, interactive, and engaging session. The workshop was highly appreciated by both the students and the school authorities, reflecting the growing importance of digital safety education and mental health awareness among young learners. The students gained valuable insights into online security, responsible use of digital platforms, cyber ethics, and strategies for protecting their mental well-being, making the programme both educational and impactful. Through initiatives like these, the Mukti Urban Project continues to empower young people with the awareness and life skills needed to become safe, responsible, and resilient digital citizens.
