On 2nd December 2025, Mukti Surya Centre, Raidighi, organized a Certification Program in Basic Emergency Medical Technology (EMT) to strengthen emergency healthcare capacity among Mukti Swastha Shongini members. As frontline caregivers serving some of the most geographically remote and disaster-prone areas of the Sunderbans, the Swastha Shongini team holds a vital role in safeguarding community health and wellbeing.
The program was designed to develop essential, standardized emergency medical response skills to better manage sudden medical crises, accident situations, and disaster-related health emergencies. Through hands-on demonstrations and scenario-based learning, participants were trained in primary patient assessment, first aid, CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation), wound care, bleeding control, and safe patient transfer during emergencies.
A formal competency assessment was conducted at the end of the training by an experienced GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) nurse. Participants who successfully met the required standards received official certificates recognising their proficiency in Basic EMT skills.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in empowering community-based health workers with life-saving capabilities. By equipping the Swastha Shangini team with professional-grade emergency response knowledge, Mukti has not only strengthened disaster preparedness but also contributed to reducing vulnerabilities in isolated island villages. The strengthened medical readiness at the grassroots level is expected to create a long-term positive ripple effect on rural healthcare access and resilience in the Sunderbans.
Mukti continues to invest in capacity-building programs to ensure that local health workers are fully prepared to protect lives when every second matters.
