Mukti Kolkata Mela 2025 was successfully held on 19 and 20 December 2025 at Kali Singhee Park (Simla Byayam Samity), Kolkata. The mela was organised by Mukti’s CHILD project team and sponsored by Children International, creating a vibrant platform to showcase Mukti’s grassroots work and promote social awareness among urban communities.
The mela was inaugurated by Mr Rajesh Sinha, Councillor of Ward 25, Kolkata, through a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony. The event witnessed the presence of Mr Sankar Halder, Founder and President of Mukti; Mr Soumitra Bose, Vice-President of Mukti; Mr Timir Baran Bhattacharjee, Treasurer of Mukti; and Mr Supriya Bandyopadhyay, Lead – Media and Communication, Mukti. Their presence reaffirmed Mukti’s commitment to inclusive, community-led development.
Stalls were set up to showcase Mukti’s work across its livelihood, environment, education, rights, and health verticals. These stalls displayed a wide range of handcrafted products, including soft toys, jewellery, processed food items, and other items prepared by community members associated with Mukti’s programmes, highlighting sustainable livelihood opportunities and local skills.
A special attraction of the mela was the stalls managed by sponsored children from Mukti’s CHILD project. Through creative models, charts, and interactive displays, the children raised awareness on critical issues such as child safeguarding, child rights, creative innovation, career aspirations, the effects of smoking, communication, mental health, and healthy and unhealthy relationships. Their confident participation reflected the impact of Mukti’s child-centric approach to education and empowerment.
The programme also featured a quiz competition organised by Mukti’s environment cluster, a dedicated session on mental health, and a breast cancer awareness session conducted by oncologist Dr Moumita Maity. In addition, Mukti’s Swastha Shongini team operated a health stall providing free blood pressure screening for visitors, drawing strong community participation.
Cultural performances, including songs, dance, and other cultural events, added colour and energy to the mela, making it a lively and inclusive experience for all age groups. On the second day, the event was further graced by the presence of Mr Vivek Gupta, MLA of the Jorasanko Assembly constituency and Managing Director & Chief Group Editor of SANMARG.
Overall, Mukti Kolkata Mela 2025 served as an effective platform for awareness-building, community interaction, and celebration of collective efforts, reinforcing Mukti’s mission to create informed, resilient, and empowered communities.
