MUKTI proudly celebrates a significant milestone as its Founder-President, Mr. Sankar Halder, was honoured by Indians for Collective Action (ICA) at the ICA Annual Gala 2026, held on 4 October 2026 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Palo Alto, California, USA.
The recognition acknowledged Mr. Halder’s visionary leadership and lasting contributions towards building climate resilience and sustainable communities in the Sundarbans region of West Bengal. The event, centred on the theme of Climate Sustainability, brought together individuals committed to collective action and sustainable development.
During the ceremony, Mr. Halder received a commemorative plaque in recognition of his dedication to strengthening vulnerable communities and promoting sustainable development. He also participated in an on-stage conversation, sharing perspectives connected to MUKTI’s grassroots initiatives and the challenges faced by communities in climate-vulnerable regions.
The recognition reflects MUKTI’s longstanding commitment to empowering underserved communities through education, sustainable agriculture, livelihood development, women’s empowerment, environmental conservation, and community-led initiatives. Working extensively in the Sundarbans, MUKTI continues to address interconnected social, economic, and environmental challenges while promoting resilience and self-reliance.
Indians for Collective Action, a US-based nonprofit organisation established in 1968, supports sustainable development in India through partnerships with grassroots organisations and social changemakers. By honouring Mr. Halder, ICA also acknowledged the collective achievements of MUKTI and its contribution to community development.
This international recognition is a proud moment for the entire MUKTI family, including its dedicated team members, volunteers, supporters, and the communities at the heart of its work. It reinforces the importance of grassroots leadership and collective efforts in creating a more equitable, resilient, and sustainable future.
MUKTI extends its heartfelt gratitude to Indians for Collective Action for recognising this journey and providing an international platform to highlight the importance of community-driven development.
