When disaster strikes, it doesn’t just take away homes and devastate livelihoods. It leaves people vulnerable to disease, affecting families and whole communities long after the disaster has passed.
Flooding is one of the worst disasters for insect-borne diseases like Malaria. The stagnant water creates a breeding site for mosquitoes. Mosquito nets are one of the most common ways to prevent the spread of malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases. By sleeping under nets, families can minimize the chances of deadly malaria infection.
To keep check on the spread of vector-borne disease in the flood-hit villages, Mukti started distributing mosquito nets to the people in the flood- affected areas. The water has started receding in these areas, the distribution of mosquito nets is necessary to protect the people from vector-borne diseases.
To prevent the breeding of mosquitoes in these villages Mukti has also started to disinfect the areas with bleaching powder.
