On February 9, 2024, Ms. Ipsita Thakur from Mukti’s partner organization KPMG visited the project site for monitoring of Dragon plants, Mangroves, Coconut plants, and fruit plantation sites in Kankandighi and Nagendrapur Gram Panchayats. She interacted with women leaders engaged in planting and nurturing the plants. As part of this project, named “Mukti Green Defense in Sundarbans (MGDS),” more than 6000 mangrove trees, 3,600 dragon fruit plants, and more than 500 coconut and fruit trees have been planted along with 900 concrete poles as support for the dragon plants. This initiative addresses the critical problem of erosion of soil and river embankments while empowering the local community through livelihood generation.
Ms. Thakur also met with 20 SHG women who are a few of the beneficiaries of the project to discuss the project’s progress and plans. The meeting became a forum for exchanging insights, sharing success stories, and collectively envisioning a sustainable and resilient future for the community.
