Bamboo Basket-Making Training Promotes Sustainable Skills under ACV Project

As part of MUKTI’s Amplifying Community Voice (ACV) Project, a five-day bamboo basket-making training programme was organised from 18 to 22 August 2026, bringing together 30 participants from SC, ST and OBC communities, including both women and men.

The training focused on developing practical livelihood skills through the use of bamboo, a locally available and environmentally friendly natural resource. Participants were introduced to the different stages of basket making, including bamboo selection, cutting, splitting, preparation of bamboo strips and weaving techniques.

The programme combined theoretical learning with extensive hands-on practice. Under the guidance of the trainer, participants prepared bamboo strips themselves and gradually learned each stage of the basket-making process.

By the end of the five-day training, participants had completed seven bamboo baskets through practical work. The finished products were reviewed based on their shape, quality, durability and overall appearance, helping participants better understand the importance of workmanship and product finishing.

Beyond introducing a new craft, the training encouraged participants to recognise the potential of locally available natural resources for skill development and livelihood generation. The knowledge gained during the programme can now be further practised and strengthened within their communities.

Through initiatives such as this, the ACV Project continues to promote practical skills, sustainable use of local resources and opportunities that can support stronger and more resilient community livelihoods.
