Coconut is one of the most useful plants to mankind in the plant kingdom because of its multifaceted use of its various parts. The plant provides livelihood security and employment opportunities to a major segment of the rural mass of the society.
The main objective of the coconut plantation program of Mukti is to provide livelihood (which became interrupted due to lockdown) to the marginalized people engaged in cultivation, processing, trading, transportation and other related activities.
The second objective is to return the green to nature which was destroyed by Amphan almost 2 months ago.
Mukti, at very initial stage planted 10,000 coconuts seeding, bought from Kerala, in 5 nurseries of the model village at Purbasridharpur under Nagendrapur Gram Panchayat and Mathurapur Block II. Each nursery is spread on 3 Kattha of land where 200 women of SHG are nurturing the coconut seedlings.
Mukti has a target to plant 1 lakh coconut seedling which will create job opportunities for the people of 10 Blocks (Jaynagar I and II, Mathurapur I and II, Sagar, Namkhana, Kakdwip, Kultali, Patharpratima and Kulpi).
When the saplings will grow about 1 ft – 1.50 ft they will be delivered to the BDOs’ of different villages. After that, the saplings will be distributed to the women groups who are working under various government projects like NRC and others. Thus, this initiative of Mukti will create 10,000 job opportunities for the women.
