AMPHAN battered Sunderban: MUKTI provides food at Mousuni Island

Cyclone AMPHAN wreaked havoc in parts of West Bengal and massive destruction at Sunderban. The cyclone has damaged properties worth crores of rupees and has thrown the lives of lakhs of people out of gear. Several trusts and organizations are pitching in to alleviate the sufferings of the victims of the cyclone.

Mukti jumped in rescue and rehabilitation activities during and after the cyclone faded in Sunderban. Mukti volunteers cleared roads, pathways, distributed food, and essential items to the victims and helped in the rehabilitation of people in many areas.

Mousuni Island is the example of one such Virgin Islands where most human feet have not left behind their marks yet. The unexplored island is hidden in Namkahana of West Bengal and adjacent to Sunderban Delta. At present, AMPHAN has perished this remote island from the map of Sunderban. Totally detached from civilization the vulnerable are passing their days in severe condition without food, shelter and drinking water.

There are around 300 people among them 100 are under 20 years of age. They were in severe poverty for 3 days after AMPHAN passed away. They were unable to get any help. After several attempts, they somehow managed to connect Mukti. Mukti volunteers at once came forward to help them. 150 families were given shelter, food (Rice, Dal, Mustard Oil, Potato, Salt etc.) and drinking water.

Mukti has also taken an initiative to run a community kitchen in this area. At Mousuni Island Mukti is still there to help the affected people with whatever essential items they need.
