In a proud moment for MUKTI, our Founder-President, Mr. Sankar Halder, was honoured by Indians for Collective Action (ICA) at its Annual Gala 2026, held on 4 October in Palo Alto, California, USA. The recognition celebrated his visionary leadership and contributions towards strengthening climate resilience and promoting sustainable community development, particularly in the Sundarbans region of West Bengal.
Centred on the theme of Climate Sustainability, the event brought together individuals and organisations committed to sustainable development and collective action. Mr. Halder received a commemorative plaque acknowledging his dedication to building resilient communities and creating lasting social impact.
An important highlight of the event was an on-stage conversation featuring Mr. Halder, during which the discussion touched upon sustainability, climate change, climate resilience, and MUKTI’s work across different areas of development. The interaction provided an opportunity to bring MUKTI’s grassroots experiences and initiatives to an international platform.
Over the years, MUKTI has worked across education, sustainable agriculture, livelihood development, women’s empowerment, healthcare, and environmental conservation, with a strong presence in the climate-vulnerable Sundarbans. Through these interconnected initiatives, the organisation continues to support underserved communities and promote sustainable, community-led development.
Established in 1968, Indians for Collective Action is a US-based nonprofit organisation dedicated to supporting sustainable development in India through partnerships with grassroots organisations and social changemakers. Its recognition of Mr. Halder also acknowledges the collective achievements of MUKTI and its commitment to meaningful social change.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Indians for Collective Action for recognising this journey and reaffirming the importance of collective efforts towards a more resilient and sustainable future.
