Recognising that education plays an essential role in shaping responsible, compassionate, and socially aware individuals, MUKTI conducted Value Education sessions for 121 teachers across the Patharpratima, Canning, and Mathurapur clusters under its Mukti Support Schools (MSS) programme.
The sessions focused on four fundamental values enshrined in the Preamble to the Constitution of India — Justice, Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity. Through group discussions, presentations, and collaborative reflection, teachers explored the meaning of these values and discussed practical ways to nurture them among students.
The initiative aimed to strengthen teachers’ understanding of constitutional values and encourage their integration into everyday classroom teaching and interactions.
The Value Education session at Satmukhi MSS began with a collective reading of the Preamble to the Constitution of India by the participating teachers.
The reading set the foundation for a discussion on the four constitutional values and their relevance to education, society, and everyday life.
To encourage active participation, teachers were divided into four groups, with each group assigned one of the values: Justice, Liberty, Equality, or Fraternity.
Each group explored its assigned theme and reflected on how the value could be understood, practised, and communicated to children.
The group activity followed a structured and participatory format designed to encourage different perspectives.
Each group selected a leader who delivered a two-minute presentation explaining the group’s understanding of its assigned constitutional value.
A co-leader then discussed how the value could be introduced and nurtured among students through classroom practices, discussions, and everyday experiences.
A third representative from each group shared an important observation or takeaway emerging from the discussion.
In total, 12 teachers representing the four groups presented their reflections, creating an engaging exchange of ideas on the meaning and practical application of constitutional values.
The discussions highlighted the importance of moving beyond theoretical explanations and helping students experience values through their behaviour, relationships, and interactions with others.
The Value Education initiative brought together teachers from three MSS clusters, strengthening opportunities for collective learning and professional development.
The participation details were as follows:
Altogether, 121 teachers participated in the sessions, reflecting MUKTI’s continued efforts to strengthen value-based education across its MSS centres.
Through these discussions, teachers had opportunities to exchange perspectives, reflect on their responsibilities as educators, and explore how constitutional values could be incorporated into their teaching practices.
The sessions reinforced the understanding that values such as justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity should not remain limited to textbook definitions.
Instead, they can be introduced through classroom discussions, group activities, shared responsibilities, and everyday situations that encourage children to respect differences, act fairly, express themselves responsibly, and develop a sense of belonging.
By encouraging teachers to reflect on these values collectively, the initiative sought to strengthen their ability to create inclusive and respectful learning environments.
MUKTI believes that education must support not only academic progress but also the development of character, empathy, responsibility, and social awareness.
The Value Education sessions provided teachers with an opportunity to revisit the principles of the Indian Constitution and consider their significance in shaping young minds.
Through its Mukti Support Schools programme, MUKTI continues to promote holistic education by empowering teachers to nurture children who understand the importance of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity — values that form the foundation of an inclusive and responsible society.
