With the aim of strengthening rural livelihoods and promoting women’s economic independence, MUKTI organised a three-day training programme on Cattle Feed Management for 50 women members of Mukti Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Purbasridharpur village from 12 to 14 October 2026.
Conducted under MUKTI’s SWAS Project, the initiative focused on equipping women with practical knowledge and skills to improve livestock care, feeding practices, and cattle management. The training was designed to help participants make better use of their existing livestock resources and explore opportunities for generating sustainable household income.
For many rural households, cattle rearing is an important livelihood activity that can contribute to both household nutrition and financial stability. However, maintaining healthy and productive livestock requires appropriate feeding practices, regular care, and effective management.
Recognising these needs, MUKTI organised the training to strengthen participants’ understanding of proper cattle feeding, nutritional requirements, and everyday livestock management.
Over the three days, the women learned about appropriate feeding practices and the importance of providing adequate nutrition to their animals. The programme also emphasised how improved livestock management can contribute to better animal health and productivity.
By developing these skills, participants were encouraged to adopt more informed and effective approaches to caring for the cattle they rear at home.
Beyond improving livestock care, the training focused on the economic opportunities associated with cattle rearing.
For women engaged in small-scale livestock activities, milk production and livestock sales can provide additional sources of household income. Improved feeding and management practices can help enhance animal productivity, creating opportunities for greater financial returns.
The programme therefore aimed to strengthen women’s ability to manage their livestock more efficiently and develop cattle rearing into a more sustainable livelihood activity.
By connecting practical skills with income-generation opportunities, the initiative sought to support women in reducing their financial dependence and contributing more actively to their households’ economic wellbeing.
An important objective of MUKTI’s SWAS Project is to strengthen the capacities of rural women and support their journey towards economic self-reliance.
The participation of 50 Self-Help Group members reflected the importance of collective learning and skill development in promoting women’s livelihoods.
Through the training, participants gained knowledge that could be applied directly to their daily livestock-rearing activities, helping them make informed decisions about animal care and management.
The initiative also reinforced the role of Self-Help Groups as platforms for learning, mutual support, and economic empowerment within rural communities.
The three-day training programme at Purbasridharpur reflected MUKTI’s continued commitment to promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities and strengthening women’s economic participation.
By providing practical training in cattle feed management, the SWAS Project sought to help women improve livestock productivity, strengthen household income opportunities, and build greater confidence in managing their livelihood activities.
Through initiatives like this, MUKTI continues to empower rural women with the knowledge and skills needed to build sustainable livelihoods, strengthen their financial independence, and contribute to the long-term wellbeing of their families and communities.
