Celebrating Teachers, Learning and Gratitude

On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, teachers from the Mukti Kishalaya Support Schools (MKSS) and Mukti Support Schools (MSS) teams, along with trainers from the Mukti Urban Project, came together with children for a joyful celebration at Singhee Bagan High School and the Mukti Kolkata Project Office.

The programme began with a conversation about the significance of Teachers’ Day and why it is celebrated across India on 5 September, commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, renowned educator and former President of India.

The discussion went beyond the history of the day, with teachers sharing their reflections on the deeper meaning of teaching, learning, and guidance. They spoke about the role teachers play not only in education but also in nurturing values, building confidence, and encouraging children as they grow.

Children Take Centre Stage

The children brought energy and warmth to the celebration through enthusiastic songs, dance performances, and recitations. These activities gave them an opportunity to showcase their creativity while expressing their affection, respect, and appreciation for their teachers.

As part of the Teachers’ Day celebration, education kits were also distributed among the MKSS and MSS children at Singhee Bagan School to support and encourage their learning and education. The initiative added a meaningful dimension to the celebration, combining appreciation for teachers with continued encouragement for the children’s educational journey.

The celebrations created a warm and respectful environment where teachers and children could interact beyond their regular learning activities. The active participation of both teachers and students reflected the relationships built through everyday teaching, encouragement, and shared experiences.

More than a celebration, the day became an opportunity to reinforce the values of respect, gratitude, learning, and togetherness, while recognising the important role teachers play in a child’s journey.

Teachers’ Day served as a reminder that education is built not only through lessons, but also through the relationships, values, opportunities, and encouragement that help children learn and grow.
