Reaffirming its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of children, the Mukti Urban Project, in collaboration with the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and Girish Park Police Station, organised a Child Safeguarding Awareness Programme under the Ward Level Child Protection Committee (WLCPC) Initiative on 16 July 2026 at Singhee Bagan High School.
The programme brought together children, caregivers, teachers, and community members to build awareness on child protection, children’s rights, and the collective responsibility of creating a safe and nurturing environment where every child can grow with dignity, confidence, and security.
Representatives from Childline and Girish Park Police Station conducted an engaging and informative session on key child protection issues, including safe and unsafe touch, child abuse, bullying, child marriage, and the role of the Childline 1098 helpline. Through interactive discussions and audio-visual presentations, participants gained a better understanding of the different forms of abuse and exploitation that children may face, along with the importance of recognising early warning signs and responding appropriately.
The facilitators stressed that children should never remain silent if they experience or witness abuse, violence, bullying, child marriage, or any situation that threatens their safety—whether involving a family member, neighbour, acquaintance, or stranger. Participants were encouraged to speak to a trusted adult and seek help without fear, reinforcing the message that every child has the right to protection and support.
The police officials also explained the role of law enforcement in safeguarding children and assured participants that reporting incidents of abuse or suspicious activities is both safe and essential. They encouraged children, caregivers, and community members to remain vigilant and to make use of available support mechanisms, including the police and Childline 1098, whenever a child is at risk or in need of assistance.
The programme concluded with an interactive discussion that reinforced a simple yet powerful message: child safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Families, schools, communities, and institutions all have a vital role to play in protecting children and ensuring that they grow up in environments free from fear, violence, and exploitation.
Through such initiatives, the Mukti Urban Project continues to strengthen community-based child protection systems by promoting awareness, encouraging timely reporting, and fostering collaboration among key stakeholders. By empowering children with knowledge and equipping caregivers and community members with the right information, the initiative contributes towards building safer, more responsive, and child-friendly communities where every child is protected, respected, and heard.
