Under Mukti’s Swastha Shongini initiative, supported by the Kolkata Foundation, a cancer detection and awareness camp was organised on 15 January at Sonatikari village with the support of HCG ECO Cancer Hospital, New Town. The programme aimed to promote early detection and awareness of common cancers among rural women.
Dr. Abhijeet Das, Head of Radiology at HCG ECO Cancer Hospital, led the session and interacted with 47 village women. During the awareness talk, he discussed four common types of cancer, their early symptoms, and the importance of timely screening. As part of the camp, two women were clinically examined for early warning signs.
Based on the initial screening, five women have been referred for further diagnostic tests. These referrals will be facilitated through the Swasthya Sathi health card, which can cover a significant portion of treatment costs. The HCG Cancer Hospital team has also assured guidance on accessing relevant government health schemes, if required.
The camp was smoothly coordinated by Mukti’s local health worker, who will ensure regular follow-ups with the referred patients to support continuity of care.
