Mukti, with the support of United Way Mumbai, has undertaken a plantation initiative along the riverbank of Ayla Bandh at Dakshin Kashinagar, Patharpratima block. As part of Mukti’s Integrated Development Program, saplings of mangroves, vetiver grass, and dragon fruit were planted to address both ecological restoration and livelihood enhancement.
Mangrove and vetiver grass plantation will help strengthen the riverbank, reduce erosion, and enhance local biodiversity, thereby providing long-term climate resilience in this vulnerable region. Alongside, dragon fruit cultivation is being introduced as a sustainable livelihood option, offering local farmers an opportunity for income diversification.
Through this combined approach of ecological protection and economic empowerment, Mukti continues its commitment to building climate-resilient communities in the Sundarbans. The initiative stands as a step forward in harmonizing environmental conservation with sustainable rural development.
