The vibrant Sundarban Mela 2025, organized by MUKTI, concluded successfully after a week of cultural extravaganza, informative workshops, and community-driven initiatives. Held from January 4th to 12th at the Vivekananda Maidan in Krishnachandrapur, the event brought together thousands of people to celebrate the richness of local traditions, promote awareness on vital social issues, and support rural businesses.
The grand inauguration of the Mela was marked by the release of sky lanterns into the sky, symbolizing hope and unity. Distinguished political and social leaders were present at the ceremony, including Mrs. Dola Sen, Rajya Sabha MP; Mr. Bapi Halder, MP from Mathurapur; Dr. Aloke Jaldata, MLA from Raidighi; Mr. Jayanta Kumar Roy, MP from Jalpaiguri; and Mr. Purnendu Basu, former Agriculture Minister of West Bengal. Their presence underscored the importance of such community-focused events in fostering regional development.
Throughout the week, attendees were treated to a variety of programs designed to enhance both their cultural understanding and practical knowledge. A series of workshops on critical issues was held, including a soil management workshop led by Dr. Krishnendu Acharya, Head of the Botany Department at the University of Calcutta. The event also hosted a workshop on cybersecurity, mental health awareness sessions, environmental sustainability talks, and medical camps offering free health check-ups to attendees.
In addition to the educational activities, the Mela featured an impressive array of stalls showcasing local rural products. Visitors had the opportunity to purchase beautifully crafted imitation jewellery, traditional shola art (handmade from the soft wood of the shola tree), and processed food items produced by local artisans. There was also an exhibition of organic vegetables and livestock, highlighting the region’s agricultural heritage.
For families, the Mela offered plenty of entertainment, including food stalls, fun rides for children, and book stalls catering to all ages. Cultural performances added to the festive atmosphere, with a standout drama on domestic violence and women’s rights—powerful themes that resonated with many of the event’s attendees.
The event was graced by key figures from MUKTI, including Founder-President Mr. Sankar Halder and CEO of Mukti Fresh, Mr. Debabrata Halder. Mr. Chandan Maiti, General Secretary of ASFHM, also attended and shared his thoughts on the importance of empowering local communities through such events. In their speeches, dignitaries praised the efforts of MUKTI in organizing a platform that not only entertained but also educated and empowered the people of Sundarbans.
The Sundarban Mela 2025 thus succeeded in its mission to blend entertainment, education, and community development, leaving a lasting impact on both the local and regional populace. It was a true reflection of the spirit of unity, progress, and tradition.
