Mukti’s Educational Webinar: Dr. Sandeep Ghosh’s Guidance to TSS Students

Mukti organized an online meeting with 100 students of TSS on May 31st, 2024, at 8 PM. The primary focus of this meeting was to discuss how students can continue their studies and achieve their goals amidst the current challenges. Dr. Sandeep Ghosh and Dr. Chandrima Bhattacharya were the key speakers at the event.

Dr. Sandeep Ghosh, the main guide for the session, captivated the students with his insightful speech. He addressed various issues impacting students’ education, beginning with the shortcomings of the current education system. Highlighting the grim scenario, he mentioned that many schools are closing down due to a lack of infrastructure and teachers. According to the 2023 Annual Survey Report of Education, 25% of students across India discontinued their studies for various reasons. Moreover, many students who do remain in school are not developing the necessary skills to achieve their future goals, resulting in difficulties finding jobs post-graduation.

Dr. Ghosh pointed out that 73% to 75% of students in West Bengal depend on private tuition for their studies. He emphasized the unique challenges faced by TSS students from remote rural areas of Sundarbans, East Medinipur, or Burdwan districts, where environmental obstacles make it even harder to continue their education.

In his motivational speech, Dr. Ghosh encouraged TSS students to overcome these challenges with determination. Quoting Albert Einstein, he said, “Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.” He urged students to enrich their minds with concepts, not just memorize information, and to understand and apply their knowledge in practice. He also stressed the importance of developing digital information technology skills and keeping up with modern science, including Artificial Intelligence.

To inspire the students, Dr. Ghosh recounted the life story of Jagadish Chandra Bose, a pioneering scientist who advanced modern science in India despite British opposition. He used this example to show that with knowledge and perseverance, students can overcome adversity and build a brighter future. He also reminded them that today’s students will become the backbone of tomorrow’s society, spreading the light of education from village to village. He encouraged them to consider the plight of the underprivileged in society and to help spread education to those less fortunate.

Dr. Ghosh recommended reading “The Biology of Belief” to further expand their understanding. His engaging and inspiring talk made the time fly by, and the students expressed their eagerness for more such meetings to enhance their knowledge. Dr. Ghosh assured them that he would make time for future sessions to continue these valuable educational discussions.
