The 100th issue of Mukti Barta is more than just a milestone; it is a moment to pause, reflect, revamp, and recommit. As we celebrate this issue, I find myself reimagining MUKTI and how it will remain relevant a century or more from now. Today, MUKTI is a 23-year-old organization that works relentlessly for the betterment of humanity and nature. We are constantly thinking about how every individual can become part of this great mission, ensuring we build a society where basic rights are upheld and people live with utmost dignity, love, and compassion.
When I consider what the next 100 years may demand of us, one word consistently returns to mind: Sustainability. While many equate sustainability with personal prosperity or wealth, for MUKTI, sustainability means:
An organization endures not simply because it grew in the past, but because it became wiser and more relevant to the shifting needs of the world. For MUKTI to remain impactful a century from now, we must prioritize the following:
Building a Leadership Pipeline
Leaders are the anchors of any organization, sailing it through the oceans of difficulty. With the right leadership, an organization flourishes; with poor leadership, it may sink. We must invest time in nurturing young minds and community leaders so they can carry this journey forward with right values and renewed energy.
Systems Above Individuals
Change in leadership and personnel is inevitable. While MUKTI must embrace people from all segments of society, conflicts and deviations are common. Clear, effective, and technology-led processes are of paramount importance. We must transition from being a people-driven organization to a process-driven one.
Deep Community Ownership
An organization is truly sustainable when its beneficiaries become its ambassadors. When the communities we serve stand by MUKTI’s philosophy, MUKTI becomes truly future-ready.
Adaptability and Innovation
The challenges of today will not be the challenges of tomorrow. Our relevance depends on our willingness to learn, unlearn, and evolve. In a fast-growing world, new problems will require new standards and innovative solutions. To stay focused on this “bumpy road,” adaptability is our key game-changer.
The Ethical Standpoint
Taking shortcuts is often easy, but remaining rooted in our values is what sets us apart. Keeping our promises to society and choosing values over convenience is our mantra for long-term impact.
“The ultimate goal of a successful NGO is to become unnecessary.”
If every institution functioned as it should, organizations like ours would not be needed. The ideal society is one where every child receives an education, every woman is empowered to live with dignity, every family has a sustainable livelihood, every community is heard, and the Earth is protected.
In such a world, MUKTI’s mission would be accomplished. However, until that ideal is reached, MUKTI will remain relevant. We bear the responsibility to bridge gaps, amplify voices, and innovate where existing systems fail. We must remain responsible, credible, and courageous, inspiring the systems around us to evolve.
As we celebrate this 100th issue of Mukti Barta, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to every volunteer, partner, donor, and community member who has shaped this journey. Together, we are building more than just an organization; we are building a legacy—an enduring movement of hope, dignity, and sustainable change.
