World Environment Day 2025: A Week of Awareness, Action, and Creativity

World Environment Day 2025, observed on June 5th, rallied the global community around the critical theme of “Ending Plastic Pollution.” First established by the United Nations in 1973, this international observance has now grown to include over 140 countries working in solidarity to protect the planet.

This year’s theme serves as a wake-up call to the mounting plastic crisis overwhelming our ecosystems. With the urgency of a global plastics treaty gaining momentum, World Environment Day 2025 focused on transforming awareness into action—encouraging individuals, communities, and institutions to rethink, reduce, and reinvent their relationship with plastic.

MUKTI joined the global movement with a week-long celebration involving our sponsored children across various regions. The young participants enthusiastically took part in a series of environment-focused activities that combined education, creativity, and collective responsibility:

• Tree Plantation Drives: Children planted saplings in their communities, symbolizing hope and growth for a greener tomorrow.
• Poster Making: Vibrant, hand-drawn posters with messages against plastic pollution and for climate resilience lined the walls—each one a powerful expression of youthful commitment.
• Dramas: The children performed engaging skits highlighting environmental challenges and the importance of conscious living, drawing attention from peers and local residents alike.
• Recycling Workshops: Used plastic bottles and containers were transformed into colourful flower vases, pen stands, and even functional dustbins—instilling the values of reuse and waste minimization.

At MUKTI, we believe that real change begins at the grassroots. The creativity and passion demonstrated by these young minds remind us that a sustainable future is possible—when awareness leads to action, and education nurtures responsibility.

World Environment Day 2025 may have come and gone, but the message endures: every small step counts. And when we walk together—children and adults, schools and NGOs, individuals and nations—we move closer to a world free from plastic pollution.
