220 Women of 20 SHGs Are Engaged in Taking Care of the Coconut Saplings

From the month of July- August 2021 Mukti started planting coconut saplings beside the main roads of Purba Sridharpur (Mukti Gram) under Nagendrapur GP. In July-August, plantation work was done on a total of 11 km road – 8 km road from Khatua Para to Damkal and 3 km road from Milon More to Purba Sridharpur Ghazi More. Very recently, the coconut plantation work has been completed on another 3 km road from Jora Bottala to Khatua Para. 3,000 coconut saplings were planted. The nurturing work for the trees has begun in full swing.

220 women of 20 SHGs of Purba Sridharpur are engaged in taking care of these saplings.  They are watering the trees as well as weeding, using pesticides if there are insects on the trees and applying fertilizers if needed.

At present, the nurturing of the saplings planted beside the 8 km road from Khatua Para to Damkal has started. Gradually the nurturing work will also begin on the other two roads.

Mukti is providing monthly food support under “Food for Work” to the women instead of taking care of the saplings.
