On 18th May 2025, the Talented Students’ Sponsorship (TSS) team of MUKTI facilitated a heart-warming virtual interaction between sponsor Mr. Azad Rahaman Sheikh and his sponsored student, Poulami Vidyanta. The meeting served not only as a bridge between two lives connected by education but also as a powerful testament to the transformative impact of community-driven support.
Poulami, a bright and determined student from Hatkholapara village in the Hooghly district of West Bengal, is currently pursuing her B.Sc. Honours in Mathematics from Hooghly Mohsin College. As the only child of a family where her father works as a daily labourer and her mother serves as an ASHA worker, Poulami’s journey has been shaped by perseverance, parental encouragement, and the invaluable support she has received through MUKTI since 2020.
During the meeting, Poulami shared her academic milestones and her future aspirations, which include pursuing an M.Sc. in Mathematics. She recently appeared for the entrance examination of the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) and plans to apply to esteemed institutions such as Presidency University and Jadavpur University.
Mr. Sheikh, an engaged and empathetic mentor, provided insightful guidance on higher education prospects, encouraging her to explore opportunities in research, academia, and the corporate sector—including Ph.D. programs abroad. He also stressed the importance of staying informed about job trends, building networks, and seeking mentorship from teachers and peers.
In a touching moment of reciprocity, Poulami shared her intention to begin tutoring students after graduation—both to support herself and to build experience—reflecting her deep sense of responsibility and desire to give back.
The session concluded on an inspiring note with Poulami expressing heartfelt gratitude to both Mr. Sheikh and MUKTI for their unwavering support. Her story stands as a shining example of how education, when coupled with compassion and mentorship, can empower individuals and uplift communities.
