In various parts of Mathurapur Block II, Cyclone Remal uprooted many banana trees, causing significant physical damage and fruit loss. Waterlogging from heavy rains increases the risk of root rot and disease, leading to further crop loss and substantial economic impact for farmers. To assist the affected farmers and those with completed pond rejuvenation work, Mukti, in association with the Association for India’s Development (AID), distributed 1,000 banana saplings on June 23, 2024, at Kankandighi Bio Village.
Fifty-six villagers, including 16 farmers and 40 other villagers, received the aid. Among the 1,000 saplings, 700 were Apple Bananas (Kathali Kola), 150 were Green Plantains (Kach Kola), and 150 were Martaman Bananas.
After receiving the distributed banana saplings, farmers of bio-village benefited by replanting and restoring their banana plantations devastated by Cyclone Remal. The new saplings, including Apple Bananas, Green Plantains, and Martaman Bananas, offer renewed hope for crop recovery and future yields, contributing to economic stability and resilience in the farming community.
