MUKTI conducted its 8th annual awards ceremony on 8th November, 2014, to felicitate scholarship recipients under its Talented Student Sponsorship (TSS) program.
In an awards ceremony at the Jogesh Mime Academy on S.P. Mukherjee Road, Kolkata, scholarship certificates were handed over to 90 students in recognition of their merit and determination in the face of economic hardships faced by their families. The certificates were handed over by eminent personalities including educationist Shri Sudhin Chattopadhay, writer and columnist Shri Prochet Gupta, Prof. Tarun Naskar of Jadavpur University, and the president of Mukti, Shri Sankar Halder.
In line with MUKTI’s vision of providing access to education for underprivileged students, these awards represent the commitment of individual or group sponsors to support the scholars of their choice from amongst those selected by MUKTI on a merit-cum-means basis. The sponsors are expected to continue their support till the time the students complete their degree courses and secure suitable employment.
ABOUT MUKTI: MUKTI (www.muktiweb.org), a non-profit making voluntary organization established in 2003, has been working on various socio-economic issues in order to bring about holistic development of socio-economic sections of the population.
ABOUT TSS: One of the primary causes for the exclusion of certain sections of the population from India’s newfound prosperity is the lack of access to quality education. Many talented but poor students, who complete schooling, do not have access to higher education, as their parents are unable to provide the financial support required for completing professional/degree courses. The TSS project aims to address this issue by connecting economically backwards and meritorious students to individuals or groups of people willing to provide the required financial support to the students for higher studies. MUKTI serves as a bridge between the sponsor and student to create a long-term relationship between the sponsor and students being sponsored.
