The villagers of Sundarban, deeply reliant on animal husbandry for their livelihoods, face significant challenges during cyclones like Remal. The devastating winds and flooding not only destroy infrastructure but also lead to the loss of livestock, a critical source of income and sustenance. The aftermath often results in a scarcity of fodder and clean water, increased vulnerability to animal diseases, and severe economic distress for the villagers. Recovery becomes a prolonged process, as rebuilding animal shelters and replenishing livestock requires substantial resources and support.
To address these issues, Mukti joined hands with the Association for India’s Development (AID) and distributed 616 animals with 11 types of varieties including chicks, hens, and rabbits, on July 15, 2024, at Mukti Gram Purba Sridharpur. 45 beneficiaries received different types of animals based on their needs (10 on average), providing much-needed relief and a pathway to recovery.
The beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude to Mukti and the Association for India’s Development (AID) for their timely and generous support. Many villagers shared how the distribution of livestock had reignited their hope and provided them with a means to rebuild their lives after the devastation caused by Cyclone Remal. They praised the organizations for understanding their specific needs and delivering assistance that was crucial for their economic recovery. The smiles and words of appreciation from the villagers underscored the profound impact of this intervention, as they felt seen, supported, and empowered to move forward.
