Advancements in technology have empowered doctors from urban areas to treat patients in rural regions remotely through video-call consultations. Telemedicine enables healthcare professionals to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients at a distance using telecommunications technology.
Mukti has conducted several medical camps for over a month across ten blocks in the Sundarbans. To support those who lack access to quality healthcare, Mukti established a telemedicine service for residents in these rural areas. This service particularly benefits individuals who missed the camps or are in critical condition.
Specialist doctors from Australia, New York, London, Germany, and India are treating patients online. Eighteen doctors from various disciplines, including endocrinology, gynecology, ophthalmology, dermatology, gastroenterology, pediatrics, and neurology, consult with patients according to a scheduled timetable. Once a week, these specialists conduct video conferences to diagnose and prescribe treatments. Local doctors assist by writing prescriptions based on the specialists’ advice.
This centralized camp, located in Purbasridharpur under the Raidighi Police Station, serves patients from all areas where Mukti operates mobile medical camps. Over 15 days, 133 patients received free medical checkups and medication.
Mukti, in association with the sponsors “Rural Healthcare Foundation” and “Kolkata Foundation,” conducts this telemedicine service while adhering to all COVID-19 protocols. Although initially started for Amphan-affected victims, Mukti plans to continue this service for future patients.
