Bharati Hazra is a housewife living at Nagendrapur village along with her husband Ganesh Hazra. Bharti is a laborious lady and traditionally involved in cultivation activity with her Husband. Her family became victims of devastated cyclones in 2019-2020. There 2 bigha land is of no use now, it became salty and unsuited for cultivation. The increased cyclone in the area has led to their worries. The salt water overflooded their land 2 times in 2019 and then in May 2020 which decreased the productivity of the land.
Her son is studying in class nine, they even faced difficulty in submitting his tuition fee and other educational expenses.
Bharati has been associated with MUKTI since December 2016. She took training in soft toy making under the SWAS (Swavalamban Accelerator in Sunderbans’) Project. During her training Sessions, we found her very attentive, dedicated, and sincere towards her work. After completing 1st batch of training, she received kit support to start a small-scale business for her livelihood generation. Her confidence level has boosted and now she is amongst the most active members of the village, who also plays a key role in generating awareness amongst people and educating them about the importance of this project.
Now she has started to make various articles like dogs, Chick, rabbits, birds etc. She successfully learned the soft toy making under the SWAS project and now she is actively involved in training many other needy women thus taking a step forward our Trained the Trainer concept of the project. She has successfully managed to sell most of her soft toys, her dedication towards her work is commendable. Due to her skill and expertise, she is now able to expand her business.
Bharti’s association with MUKTI, has proved to be beneficial for her family as she is now able to make soft toys and have a steady flow of income irrespective of the festivals and special days. Currently her income is Rs.2500 per month; however, we are sure that this will increase in the near future
