In alignment with the United Nations’ designation of World Habitat Day on the first Monday of October, Mukti Support Schools (MSS) celebrated this vital occasion on October 2nd this year. The day has been dedicated to the theme of habitat preservation, highlighting the pressing issue of endangerment caused by a multitude of irrational human activities that necessitate restoration and refurbishment. The event saw the participation of 64 MSS, where 4861 students actively engaged in commemorating the significance of the day.
Mukti orchestrated a series of thought-provoking activities within the school premises to instill the values of environmental consciousness and the importance of shelter for all species. Among these activities was a captivating drawing competition for students in classes V and VI, an intellectually stimulating quiz competition for Classes VII and VIII, and an inspiring paragraph writing competition for students in Classes IX and X. These competitions not only honed the creative and analytical skills of the students but also provided them with a platform to express their perspectives on habitat conservation.
Moreover, the students were treated to enlightening sessions that delved into various facets of our urbanized economy, the rapid advancements in technology, shifting lifestyles, consumerism, and the distancing of society from the natural world – all of which are causes for concern. These sessions served to cultivate a comprehension of the escalating issues stemming from the increased combustion of substances, resulting in the release of carbon dioxide, and the proliferation of industries in both urban and rural areas emitting potent greenhouse gases such as NO2 and N2O, ultimately contributing to global warming. As polar ice continues to melt and sea levels rise, the vulnerability of the Sundarbanislands looms large, with the potential for more low-pressure systems to spawn cyclones, endangering the vital mangrove ecosystem, which is a vital protector of our coastlines.
These sessions ignited the spirit of sustainability and global harmony in the minds of MSS students, in line with the spirit of World Habitat Day.
