
Mukti, committed to social welfare and community development, celebrated its 21st Foundation Day and Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 9th March 2025 at the Shivnath Shastri Sadan in Joynagar, South 24 Parganas. The event was not just a moment to commemorate the organization’s journey, but also to honour the individuals and communities that have contributed to its success.
The day began on a solemn note with a tribute to the late members of Mukti—Shri Rup Sanatan Purkait, Shri Bimal Mayra, Smt. Sikha Dutta, and Shri Pradeep Ray. A video was shared in memory of Shri Pradeep Ray, who passed away on 26th February 2025. This moving tribute celebrated his lifelong dedication to the cause, leaving the audience reflecting on his lasting impact.
The event’s official proceedings started with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by distinguished guests and delegates, symbolizing the continuing light of knowledge and the organization’s mission. Shri Sankar Halder, Founder-President of Mukti, delivered an emotional speech, remembering Shri Pradeep Ray and stressing the enduring importance of Mukti’s values. His words reminded all present of the organization’s strong foundation, built by leaders like Shri Ray, and the bright future ahead for Mukti.
The atmosphere was charged with energy when Mukti’s inaugural song, আমার মুক্তি আলোয় আলোয় (“My Freedom in the Light”), was performed. This song, representing the spirit of Mukti, uplifted the crowd and set the tone for the day.
Shri Satyajit Roy, Secretary of Mukti, gave a heartfelt welcome speech, reflecting on the organization’s steady progress and the significance of the day’s event. His words resonated with everyone, particularly when he spoke about the strong foundation of Mukti and the importance of community. “Today’s event is an opportunity to see how solid our foundation is,” he remarked. He also emphasized how Mukti’s growth is reflected in its people, the diverse group gathered from all corners of the region. For him, the event was as much about networking as it was about remembering and honouring Mukti’s collective work.
The gathering also saw the recognition of the individuals and organizations who have supported Mukti. The award ceremony highlighted many key achievements, such as—HOPE, a project supported by Children International, was awarded Best Project. Smt. Kirtimayi Mishra, representative of Children International, praised Mukti’s leadership, noting, “Working with Mukti has been a learning experience. Their leadership is exceptional, and we are proud to continue our collaboration with them. Their commitment is unmatched.” The Best Comeback Story award was presented to Damkal MSS, recognizing its inspiring transformation.
Mukti’s diverse work was presented in detail through its HEALER-AID model, which covers areas such as health, education, agriculture reform, livelihoods, environment, rights, awareness, and disaster risk reduction. This comprehensive presentation was a testament to the organization’s holistic approach to development, showing how every facet of the community is addressed through its initiatives.
The AGM also witnessed the dissolution of the existing board, followed by the formation of a new board. This transition marked the next phase in Mukti’s journey, as the organization moves forward with new leadership and a renewed sense of purpose.
A lively panel discussion followed, featuring some of the country’s leading social workers who are at the forefront of Mukti’s mission. The session engaged an enlightened audience and sparked conversations about the future of social work in India. Their insights offered a thought-provoking end to the day’s activities, leaving everyone with a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the sector.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Shri Biswanath Mandal, Vice-President of Mukti, who extended gratitude to all attendees, partners, and supporters. His vote of thanks reiterated Mukti’s commitment to its mission and vision, expressing hope that the coming years would bring even greater success and community transformation.
