I am Panchami Shit, and I used to be a housewife. My entire day was consumed with household chores, and I never had the opportunity to step outside. Many times, I had to face obstacles in expressing my desires or reluctance because I had no income and I depended on others for everything.
In November 2018, I heard about a remarkable initiative by an organization called Mukti, which was forming groups of 10 women each to empower them and help them become self-reliant. The moment I heard this news, I gathered 10 women from my community and formed a group, and I was appointed the leader of the group. Soon after, we received hands-on training from external trainers in various skills, such as poultry farming, making papad, crafting with shola, preparing jams, jellies, pickles, sauces, kachundi, and chanachur.
After completing the training, Mukti provided us with some free equipment and supplies to help us start our businesses. Today, I am running a business along with the women in my group, and we are steadily finding ways to earn.
Along with this business, I have personally taken loans seven times from MCDF (Mukti Community Development Fund), using the money to set up a small grocery store. From this store, I earn at least 700–800 rupees every day. With the support of Mukti, I am confident that I will be able to expand my business in the future.
Mukti has shown women like me the path to financial independence. Now, many women like me are living with dignity, contributing to their families, and bringing joy to their loved ones. I will always be eternally grateful to Mukti for the help they have given me and for showing me a way to improve my life.
