In response to cyclone Yaas, Mukti, decided to develop and implement a post-rehabilitation project throughout Sundarban. With other projects Mukti also focused on the village sanitation.
After the severe cyclone Yaas and the subsequent spring tide the villages of Sundarban was looking like a huge rubbish dump. Trees were stripped of their leaves and snapped in half like twigs, and several houses were lifted into the air and dumped meters away from their foundations.
To clean up the villages and to ensure that no one get infected by disease, a village sanitation intervention was conducted by Mukti with “Kolkata Foundation” in various places of Sundarban. Mukti volunteers with lime and bleaching powder started to sanitize the villages. They had sprinkled bleaching powder along the roads and lime was used to purify water bodies.
Mukti provided 1 quintal bleaching powder container to each blocks and masks, gloves to the volunteers so that the harsh chemical in no way can harm them. The program stared at Kakdwip, Mathurapur II, Basanti and Canning Blocks.
