The Mukti Community Development Fund (MCDF) program has created a powerful financial security system for women. Through this program, women are protecting themselves from moneylenders and high-interest rates by engaging in group-based savings and internal lending transactions. They have taken steps towards small-scale enterprises through various types of training and income-generation programs, which are providing economic security for their families.
Through this initiative, women are able to keep their valuable assets such as gold, jewellery, cattle, goats, and land safe, which they were once forced to mortgage for loans in the past. Additionally, through their saved funds and internal lending, they are becoming stronger in managing their households.
Furthermore, as part of the program, women’s groups are being taught how to maintain proper records of financial transactions. An essential aspect of this record-keeping is the cash book, which they are able to manage using a simple method. Mr. Sushanta Purkait, the accountant for MCDF, recently conducted a training session on 30th March 2025 at Raidighi office, where women were taught the process of managing a double-entry cash book.
During the training, Mr. Sushanta Purkait explained to the women how they could easily master the double-entry cash book system and, through this, ensure transparency in all their group’s financial transactions. Double-entry bookkeeping not only helps with record-keeping but also provides a clear representation of the group’s financial situation, playing a significant role in making economic plans for the future.
Such training is playing a crucial role in ensuring the financial stability and long-term success of women’s groups, and it is helping them bring about changes in their lives and in society.
