SAM Farmers Are Successfully Producing Exotic Vegetables

Mukti SAM (Sustainable Agricultural Movement) farmers have been able to successfully produce exotic vegetables. Mukti started cultivating exotic vegetables on an experimental basis with 15 farmers of SAM from Nagendrapur and Kankandighi GP on its own initiative in December to increase its production as well as the income of the farmers.

Mukti distributed 20 varieties of exotic vegetable seeds like Broccoli, Cherry Tomato, Capsicum, Lettuce, Sweet Corn, Artichoke, Zucchini, Pak-Choy, Kakdi, Squash, Turnip etc to these farmers and also provided training on how to cultivate them following organic method.

Farmers’ gardens are overflowing with exotic vegetable stock. Here Mukti is mentioning some of the successful farmers and their cultivation:

Squash plants are herbaceous annual plants that are either trailing vines or bush-like in morphology.


Prabir Purkait Paschim Jata Chinese Cabbage Chinese cabbage has a densely packed, large and elongated head. The bright white stems are thick, lightly grooved, and smooth, tightly clustered at the base forming basal rosettes. curved leaves range in color from pale green to yellow.  

Prabir Purkait Paschim Jata Broccoli Broccoli has large flower heads, usually dark green, arranged in a tree-like structure branching out from a thick stalk which is usually light green. The mass of flower heads is surrounded by leaves.  

Prabir Purkait Paschim Jata Lettuce Lettuce is a leafy annual plant. Lettuce is most often used for salads, soups, sandwiches and wraps.  

Prabir Purkait Paschim Jata Lettuce Rojo Rojo lettuce grows in a loose, rosette about 15-20 centimeters in diameter. The leaves have frilled edges that are red-brown in color blending into a pale green towards the middle and base of the lettuce head.  

Prabir Purkait Paschim Jata Capsicum Capsicum plants have smooth, medium-sized, elliptical leaves, and slender branches. Capsicums are used as spices, vegetables, and medicines.  

Prabir Purkait Paschim Jata Turnip The turnip or white turnip is a root vegetable commonly grown in temperate climates worldwide for its white, fleshy taproot.
