Mukti is using biodegradable mulches (straw mulches) for the roadside hedges of 12 km road at Purba Sridharpur under Nagendrapur GP. Late spring and autumn are the perfect seasons for the mulches to work best as this time the soil remains warm and moist.

The benefits of mulches are”

Help retain moisture, especially in summer
Improve the soil’s texture, fertility and general health as it will improve soil structure and adds nutrients as they rot down.
Discourage pests
Encourage helpful organisms
Neaten and improve the garden’s appearance
Shield roots from extreme temperatures
Help create a wildlife habitat
