In a significant move towards empowering women and fostering economic independence, Mukti, through its SWAS 2.0 project, supported by SIDBI (Small Industries Development Bank of India), has planned to provide skill development trainings to 2000 women (18 – 60 years) across various branches of Mukti Community Development Fund (MCDF), in South 24 Parganas. The training programme initiated in June, this year. Till now, 700 women received trainings which focused on a range of practical skills that are crucial for local entrepreneurship, including shola set making, soft toy production, food processing, imitation jewelry making, cattle fodder preparation and fish fodder making. Resource persons, specialized in these areas, provided the trainings.
The initiative aims to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for women, particularly in rural and underprivileged communities. The training sessions have equipped the women with the knowledge and skills required to start their own businesses or enhance existing ones, provided them with an opportunity to become financially self-reliant.
In addition to the general training, 50 women received advanced training to further hone their skills and increase their market readiness. This advanced training is expected to help them scale their businesses and improve product quality, which could lead to increased income opportunities.
As a testament to the success of the programme, three women entrepreneurs showcased their creations at the Soulful Creation Mela, held at the TATA Consultancy Services campus on 25th and 26th September 2024. The stalls featured their products – imitation jewelry, soft toys, and food processed items – demonstrating the tangible impact of Mukti’s skill development efforts.
The success of the training programme, under the SWAS 2.0 project, marks a significant step in the organization’s broader mission to empower women and foster sustainable economic development in the communities it serves. Mukti’s continued support and innovative training initiatives are expected to inspire more women to become active contributors to their local economies.
