The sponsors of the Mukti TSS (Talented Student Sponsorship) program not only support the poor yet meritorious students financially but they also act as mentors to their respective students by demonstrating the students to accept and work for themselves, to build their self-esteem and to improve their lives holistically. Only a sponsored student can feel how motivating it is just to know that he/she has a sponsor – a special person who cares about them and their education. Hearing from the sponsors gives them added encouragement to do their best. For the successful implementation of these objectives, interaction between sponsors and students is needed.
Adapting to the changing situation, the Mukti TSS team has organized a virtual sponsor student meeting instead of a face-to-face meeting on 15th Feb’22, Tuesday. The meeting has been conducted between Mr. Ranitendranath Tagore and his sponsored students.
Mukti expresses sincere gratitude to Mr. Tagore for sponsoring Sathi Rani Majhi and Champa Parvin. His sponsorship proves that poverty does not define the potential of a meritorious student. Even students from very poor families can become symbols of bright futures through sponsorship.
Mr. Ranitendranath Tagore (Ranit) has been introduced to Mukti through his voluntary work with the funding organization Asha for Education (AfE). In 2003, the time he meets with Mr. Sankar Halder – founder of Mukti, in Connecticut, the USA he has been working as a volunteer with the Yale University chapter of AfE. He has been deeply impressed by Mr. Halder’s outlook and work and continues to be an admirer of the entire Mukti team and the great work that they do. Mr. Tagore initially has been raising funds for Mukti through AfE channels. Returning back to India, he gets involved with Mukti directly as a volunteer. He has been a supporter of the TSS program since the beginning.
Mr. Tagore is sponsoring Sathi Rani Majhi and Champa Parvin from this academic session.
Sathi Rani Majhi is presently pursuing B.Sc in Chemistry honors from Bankim Sardar College. She lives with her parents and 8 years old brother at Nagartala village of South 24 Parganas district. Her father is a daily laborer and her mother is a homemaker. Sathi comes from a very poor family background and her parents had no reliable source of income. She persists a brilliant academic career and always has been very focused on her studies. She wishes to pursue Ph.D. after completion of her M.Sc.
Champa Parvin, student of Bachelor of Physiotherapy,1st year from Post Graduate Medical Education and Research and SSKM Hospital. Her father works as a daily laborer in Bangalore to support his own and elder sister’s families. Her mother is a homemaker. She has an elder sister who got married. Her father comes home after every 6 months to visit them. Being a daily worker it is very difficult for her father to manage their family expenses along with Champa’s study expenses.
At the time when Sathi and Champa are almost giving up hope of studying, Help was on the way. They hear about the sponsorship program of Mukti TSS. They are enrolled and immediately receive assistance from Mr. Tagore. Their parents who really wanted their daughter to get an education know that their prayers have been answered and they have been really excited.
In the meeting, Mr. Tagore has a detailed discussion with his students- their studies, goals, future planning, colleges, teachers, their problems etc. He also wants to know about their friends so that he can understand in what kind of company they are growing in. He quarries about the students’ interest whether they are associated with any extracurricular activities or engaged in any social work. Besides studies he wants his students to become a good human being first and help the poor and needy. He assures all his help throughout their career.
At first, the students thank Mr. Tagore for choosing them as his candidate for providing sponsorship. His sponsorship has given them the chance to envision a positive future. It is for his blessings and motivation, that they are moving forward towards their goal. They have admitted that sometimes they want to give up but it is his companionship and inspiration that has enlivened them. They want him to be by their side as a guardian.
They express their joy after meeting each other. They have decided that if the situation improves they will meet in person.
