COVID 19 along with the severe cyclone Yaas has brought unprecedented discomfort and woes in its wake, where the most vulnerable have been the most excluded, exploited and isolated. While we hear numerous stories about the suffering of the Yaas victims, the one group that continues to remain invisible to all is people with disabilities – a population that cuts across all others regardless of gender, age, religion, geography or economic background.
They had much larger needs and fewer resources. Like any other individual able the differently able are also facing the dearth of basic essentials such as food and shelter and medicines. Their other needs – access to attendants, to healthcare, inability to maintain physical distancing, lack on any information or updates- each typical to the individual need of a person, were also impacted.
Mukti in Association with “Kolkata Gives” thought for them and provided dry ration to 40 such vulnerable at 6 No Sonakhali village under Basanti Block.
The ration kit contained Rice – 4 kg, Lentil – 500 gram, Potato – 1500 gram and Soybean – 250 gram. The quantity of the relief materials is enough to fulfill their two weeks need.
During the distribution Mukti volunteers helped them to reach their relief materials at their doorstep and tried their best so that their safety should not be compromised in any way.
Mukti volunteers assured to extend possible help to the differently-abled persons if they need any further assistance in future.
