On Monday 25th April 2022 Mukti has organized a Leadership Workshop at Purba Sridharpur Paschom Para from 7 am to 10 am with the youths between the ages of 18 and 35 years. Out of 31 participants, 42-45% are women. The objective of the meeting is to introduce the concept of leadership, its features, the concept of the ideal leader, leadership qualities – characteristics etc. On behalf of Mukti Mr. Sankar Halder – Founder-President of Mukti conducts the meeting on these topics.
The discussion has started by briefing the qualities of an ideal leader. The participants are asked to find out the qualities which they think a leader must obtain. They find out 26 qualities – working skills, impartiality, positive thinking, courage, fairness, responsibility, decision-making capabilities etc. While discussing this topic, they have been thinking, about which virtue is more difficult to achieve or which one is easier while accepting of the environment in which they live? After various discussions, debates and conversations, they have expressed their cogitations.
There has been a lot of debate on one issue a leader must be economically stable. A conflict has been observed among the participants in this regard. Their point is – can’t those who belong to the vulnerable community be leaders despite having all the qualities of leadership?
Then a game is played like an election where they are told, since they live in the same neighborhood, to select the names of 4 people among them whom they think will be worthy of the leader (who obtain these 26 qualities). A ballot box has been set up and the names of the candidates are asked to be put in that ballot box. The names are then counted in the same way as in the voting system and a number of names come up from there.
Through this basic orientation Mukti has made them understand that while choosing a leader, they must be very careful and think about the basic criteria of leadership. This session is also been conducted to motivate the community to acquire the qualities of being a leader. This initiative of Mukti also is an initial attempt to create interest, enthusiasm and responsibility in them.
In the future Mukti is willing to have such sessions in many more places. At the same time, the goal of Mukti is to spread this concept among many more people through the ToT method by giving an orientation to those whose names were chosen as leaders.
